Weyerbacher Winter Ale
At Weyerbacher we’ve created a Winter Ale that is a must for any malty beer lover. Winner of a Silver Medal in the 1998 World Beer Championships, Weyerbacher Winter Ale is brewed with deep-roasted chocolate malt. The taste predominates with a warm, roasty flavor, balanced out with a slightly dry finish. It’s smooth but not cloying, with a warming belt of alcohol (5.6% ABV). Although winter ales predate history, they are believed to have their origin in the pagan celebrations of winter solstice. Later, when monasteries produced the local brew, winter ales were made each year to commemorate the birth of Christ. Back then, winter ales were brewed full-bodied as…

My Local – Revisited
{xtypo_dropcap}I{/xtypo_dropcap}t has been almost a year since I first wrote about what was to become the first brewery local to my home. White Street Brewing Company opened its doors one year ago (September 15th). Did the brewery live up to the expectations I set forth in my original article? Absolutely. The brewery/taproom has become everything that I had wished it to be in the original article. A place for clubs to meet. The White Street Brewers Guild (Homebrewing) and the Wake Forest Area Runners meet there to name just a few. Is it a place you can just stop by after a long day and grab a beer? Most certainly.…

Although most of these beers are available year round now, some, like me, wait until this month to start into them. Vote in our poll and let us know your thoughts by registering and commenting. And have a great Fall. Cheers! Note: Fall beers we are referring to (ex. Pumpkin, spiced, high gravity, etc) When do you prefer to start drinking “Fall” beers? {mijopolls 2}

Keeping Track
Evening all. Still getting used to using this as a normal blog and not the website content management interface. Good grief there are a lot of beer happenings going on around the country. Something I would not have imagened just six or seven years ago. From new brewery anniversary parties to the upcoming GABF or my local WBF (World Beer Festival). It’s becoming difficult to keep track. A good problem to have though. Show of hands…who will be attending GABF? Cheers!
