When Jonathan Staples launched Black Hops Farm in 2014 the goal was to provide local hops to Virginia’s thriving alcohol industry. Apple County Cider is a family business. We are husband and wife Ben and Steph, plus our young son Francis who loves to run amidst the apple trees. The apple trees at Whitehouse Farm were planted by Ben’s stepfather Jimmy in the 60’s who grew apples under contract to a national cider-maker. Jimmy laterly experimented with making his own real cider and encouraged Ben to join him.
