When Jonathan Staples launched Black Hops Farm in 2014 the goal was to provide local hops to Virginia’s thriving alcohol industry. This would not only support the beverage industry but also local agriculture by promoting further hop farming. With an emphasis on hops it was a no brainer that a brewery belonged on the farm. Thus, Vanish Farmwoods Brewery was born! Vanish resides on the 53 acre Black Hops Farm in beautiful Lucketts, Va. Apple County Cider is a family business. We are husband and wife Ben and Steph, plus our young son Francis who loves to run amidst the apple trees. The apple trees at Whitehouse Farm were planted by Ben’s stepfather Jimmy in the 60’s who grew apples under contract to a national cider-maker. Jimmy laterly experimented with making his own real cider and encouraged Ben to join him. 14th Star is a Veteran Owned Craft Brewery located in St. Albans, VT. The idea for 14th Star was born on the battlefields of Afghanistan by local resident Major Steve Gagner, and the business plan created on the back of a battle notebook. Upon returning from deployment Steve and a friend worked to launch 14th Star in 2012. Since inception 14th Star has seen meteoric growth and is now available in Vermont, Massachusetts and soon, New Hampshire. ShinDigger was born whilst Paul and I (George) were living together at Manchester University. We jointly invested our spare cash into a home-brewing kit. The beers were brewed in the kitchen and fermented in the basement of our student house. We soon began selling our beer at house parties. Back then, we were producing 50 pints a week.
