March 2013 Featured Brewery – Inveralmond Brewery Limited
CellarMonk’s “Featured Brewery” for the month of March is the The Inveralmond Brewery Limited, located in Perth, Scotland. History Replacing the last brewery in Perth (closed its doors in 1966), Inveralmond opened its doors in 1997. Seemingly in a constant state of growth since then, the brewery just added three new 30 barrel triple-purpose vessels (fermentation, conditioning and carbonating). Beers Inveralmond has crafted a number of great beers making use of the naturally pure waters of the Perthshire region. Their lineup includes both classic and seasonal ales. The classic lineup starts with Independence, (a 3.8% Best Bitter) and winding through Ossian (4.1% Best Bitter), Thrappledouser (4.3% Best Bitter), Lia Fail (4.7% Premium Bitter), Sunburst (4.8% Bohemian Pilsner)…

Port Townsend’s Hop Diggity in Oscar Commercial
A former “Featured Brewery”, Port Townsend Brewing Company, had one of their craft beers mentioned in a regional commercial during the Oscar telecast. The commercial was for Delta Dental of Washington, but I believe it does show how craft beer is moving towards the mainstream. Wasn’t earth shattering, but it’s a start. {youtube}2sSG3eplcLk{/youtube}

Interview with a Homebrewer – A Man in Brewniform
Our latest interviewee has a busy schedule. This is primarily due to the fact that that schedule doesn’t belong to him. Sitting in the Comfy Computer Chair of Fame long enough to complete this interview I am sure was a challenge. Between his duties as an active duty serviceman, expectant father and active homebrewer and blogger (he’s prolific on Twitter too), it’s surprising he had time to put together such impressive answers. Being a former soldier myself, I solute his service. Being the editor of this website about beer, I salute his enthusiasm for not only his homebrewing hobby, but his intense interest in the craft beer community. Welcome to…

The Fire Pit BBQ – Beer Dinner
To be clear, I am not a foodie (yet). I don’t play one on TV and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express the night before this beer dinner. On the evening of January 14th, I had the pleasure of attending my first beer dinner. I have been drinking beer for quite some time, but this was my first experience being served a meal in which each course (of five) had a beer element to it. The beer dinner took place at a local eatery by the name of The Fire Pit. Normally, the food produced by this establishment is of the smokey variety. This culinary trait was…
