Turners Cider
When we first made cider it was with the windfall from family and friends’ apple trees. We hired a scratter and a basket press and everyone gathered on a sunny Autumn morning with their bags of scrumped fruit. We used anything and everything. People brought Discovery, McIntosh Red, Golden Noble, Howgate Wonder, George Cave, Egremont Russet, Cox, Gala, Greensleaves and Grenadier. We picked apples from the wildings around the woods and fields. Much of the fruit we couldn’t identify. The kids drank the apple juice straight from the press until they got belly ache. Hecks Farmhouse Cider
The Hecks family have been making traditional farmhouse cider in Somerset for six generations, since 1841. In 1896, we started to sell our cider from our farm shop in Street. We make our cider by blending juice from apples all grown locally in the farm’s orchards. The cider is fermented in wooden barrels and sold draught from the wood.

The company’s agricultural and trading arms, McCreath Simpson & Prentice and John Guthrie, procures in excess of 300,000 tonnes of barley each year from farming partners in Scotland and England.
