Since becoming a freehouse back in 1992, The Evening Star and the team behind it, have created one of the finest tributes to all that is great about real ale.Now firmly into the 21st century and part of the small but expanding Dark Star Brewery estate of pubs, the Evening Star still has its scrubbed wooden floor and rustic heavy wooden furniture. Located some 100 yards from York's famous Micklegate Bar, the premises are housed in a listed Georgian building which was the birthplace of Joseph Aloysius Hansom (1803 - 1882) - a renowned architect, inventor and designer of landscape gardens. He designed the magnificent Birmingham Town Hall but is also renowned for inventing the Hansom Cab which he patented in 1834.  ...
